Boons can add damage, status buildup, recovery, defense, resource generation, and team effects to a build. The official catalog names 91 Boons, but it does not publish the base formula for every status. This guide separates the exact effect text from the rules that still need release-build testing.

How to use this page

Use the catalog for exact triggers and listed values. Use the status glossary to see what is established, then check the unknowns column before assuming a stack cap, threshold, duration, or damage formula.

Where Boons Come From and How Long They Last

SourceBehavior
Gear and TrinketsEquipment can carry Boons. The official Trinkets catalog ties named Boons to specific Rings and Amulets, and some Gear Boons scale with item Quality.
Nexus GatesEach cleared Gate offers one choice from three temporary Boons. Launch-day footage shows most choices continuing through the next District and resetting when the full Run ends.
Lore Scroll unlocksReturn Scrolls to Mereda to expand the Boon pool offered in future Hunts.
The official duration wording conflicts

The official Builds video says Nexus Gate Boons last for the remainder of the Run. The launch Support article says they last until the Mission ends. Retail launch footage supports Run-long behavior for most Boons, while one 25-hour field test reported that an extra-potion Boon disappeared after changing Districts. Treat that potion case as a possible bug or exception until it is reproduced.

Mereda also offers Blessings for Souls. Official sources use different names for Blessings and Boons, so this guide keeps them separate.

Status Effect and Combat Term Glossary

TermWhat the sources establishNot yet published
BurningDeals damage over time according to fire stacks. A dodge roll removes Burning. Boons can spread or modify the effect.Damage per stack, tick rate, normal duration, universal stack cap, and boss resistance.
Frost / FrozenFrost stacks slow and damage the target. Enough stacks cause Frozen, stopping movement and actions. The developer AMA also describes shattering frozen enemies.Freeze threshold, duration, Shatter formula, decay rate, and boss-specific resistance.
Bleed / BleedingBleeding deals damage over time. Boons use both numeric Bleed values and direct application wording, so their exact trigger still matters. What every numeric value represents, any buildup threshold, damage formula, duration, refresh behavior, and target immunity.
Poison / PoisonedAfter enough Poison stacks accumulate, the target becomes poisoned and takes damage over time. What every numeric value represents, any buildup threshold, damage per tick, duration, stacking, and boss resistance.
MarkedMarked targets take increased critical-hit damage. Several Boons also reward hitting a marked target with damage or resource recovery. The critical-damage bonus, duration, stacking, and whether every player benefits from the same Mark.
SunderanceLowers the target's resistance to all damage and status effects. Sundering Strikes and Scourge of the Unfaithful are documented ways to apply it.Resistance reduction per stack, stack cap, duration, and enemy-specific limits.
Rage / EnragedIncreases damage, with a stronger bonus at higher stack counts. Boons can grant Rage and change Enraged duration or defenses.Damage increase per stack, the exact Rage-to-Enraged relationship, cap, decay, and duration.
Staggered / Knocked DownStagger can lead into execution and Mark interactions. Knock Down appears as a separate crowd-control result on Ashen Verdict.Poise thresholds, immunity windows, recovery time, and boss rules.
Angelic GraceA combat resource used for Angel Ascension. Several Boons increase recovery or grant fixed Grace from specific triggers.Exact meter size, the contribution of every action, and co-op synchronization rules.

The basic effects above come from the official Status Effects page, checked September 6. Its qualitative rules are confirmed; the exact multipliers, thresholds and interaction limits in the last column are not supplied there or in the linked Boon catalog.

How to Read a Boon

Each description has a trigger and a payoff. Read the trigger before comparing the number: Light Attack, Heavy Attack, fully Charged Heavy Attack, Sprint Attack, Block, Parry, Execution, kill, low Health, Angel entry, and co-op revive are different build commitments.

QuestionWhy it matters
Can the current moveset trigger it often?A 25% Light Attack chance can be more reliable on a fast sword than on a slow attack pattern.
Does it apply buildup or the completed status? The official AMA explicitly describes Frost buildup. Bleed and Poison use several forms of numeric and status wording, but the official material does not define what every value represents.
Does it need another condition?Marked, Burning, Bleeding, Enraged, Staggered, and low-Health effects need a separate setup.
Is the value tied to Gear Quality? The developers confirm that some Gear Boons scale with Quality. This can explain why a value shown in a field guide differs from the catalog snapshot.
Does it help one player or both?Team effects explicitly say “you and allies” or create a zone for players inside it.

The official co-op example pairs a player who applies Mark or another status with a partner whose Gear exploits it. A Frost field guide also combines Frostbound Charge, Judgment of Winter, Sundering Strikes, Sanctified Rhythm, Relentless Momentum, and Oathbound Arts. The guide author says the last two stack, but the official catalog does not provide a universal stacking rule.

For an equipment plan using these triggers, follow the Frost setup. The Weapon Art catalog shows which active abilities add or consume status effects.

Stacking and Interaction Rules Still Missing

  • Whether duplicate percentage Boons stack additively, multiplicatively, or with a cap.
  • Which Weapon Arts count as Auras, ground damage zones, projectiles, or multi-hit attacks.
  • Which Gear Boons scale with Quality and how the value changes at each tier.
  • Whether status buildup decays, and how thresholds change by enemy, boss, difficulty, or co-op scaling.
  • Whether both players can apply to and benefit from the same Mark, Sunderance, Bleed, Poison, Frost, or Burning stacks.
Values can differ between versions or item tiers

One Frost guide showed Crusader's Might at +50 Physical Damage and Reaper's Respite at 20 Health, while the official Wiki snapshot lists +20 and 15. Gear Quality can scale some Boons, and the footage may show a different version or tier. Check the value on the item in your current build.

Stacking, replacement or a different effect?

QuestionHow to compare it
Two copies of the same BoonRecord name, source and quality. Do not assume the second adds to the first.
Different effects both mention Frost or FireSeparate damage bonuses, buildup and the effect triggered after buildup.
An aura or Weapon Art appears unchangedRecord the action and version; do not turn an unconfirmed report into a universal rule.
A Boon disappears after purificationCompare the permanent item with its field version, not just its name.

A Steam discussion reports a lower-value Reaper’s Respite replacing a stronger one; replies disagree about stacking. This is a report to investigate, not confirmation that all duplicate Boons overwrite. The developer also targets Boon and Weapon Art fixes in 1.0.2.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are Nexus Gate Boons permanent?

No. Launch-day retail footage shows most of them lasting through the current full Run and resetting when that Run ends. One official Support article uses Mission instead of Run, and one extra-potion Boon has been reported to disappear between Districts.

What do Rage and Sunderance do?

Rage increases damage, with a larger bonus at higher stack counts. Sunderance lowers resistance to all damage and status effects. Their exact per-stack values, caps and durations are not published in the official Status Effects entry.

Do duplicate Boons stack?

There is no published universal stacking rule. A field guide reports stacking for Relentless Momentum and Oathbound Arts, but that does not establish the behavior of every duplicate Boon.

Why is a Boon value different on my Gear?

Some Gear Boons scale with item Quality, and patches may also change values. Compare the current in-game tooltip with the official catalog snapshot.

Are Blessings the same as Boons?

Official sources use separate names for them, so this guide treats them as different systems until the relationship is documented.
