If your character level or permanent collection has disappeared, treat it differently from the normal end of a Run. Hotfix 1.0.1 added save protection, but later developer updates still acknowledge progress-loss problems. There is no verified recovery method here that works for every affected save.
What actually disappeared?
| Symptom | What to check |
|---|---|
| Temporary Boons or field-quality gear reset | Compare the normal Purification rules. A reset after a Run is not by itself proof of a lost save. |
| Character level or permanent unlocks are gone | Record the previous and current state, selected character and last successful session. |
| PC and Steam Deck load different progress | Record both installed versions and what each device shows before and after loading. |
| Only the co-op guest is missing progress | Compare both accounts and the guest continuation rules. |
Before trying to recover anything
- Stop experimenting with new characters, reinstallations or save replacement until you have recorded what happened.
- Note your platform, storefront, installed game version, character level and the time of the last working session.
- If you already know where your local saves are, preserve a separate copy before changing files. This page does not provide a verified file path or replacement procedure.
- For PC/Steam Deck switching, describe which device was used last and whether the menu preview matches the character actually loaded.
- Contact official support using its “Submit a request” link. Attach relevant screenshots or error messages.
Do not delete local saves or overwrite a cloud copy just because a forum reply says it worked for somebody else.
What the fixes do and do not establish
September 11 brought rolling backup saves and a PC/Steam Deck sync fix. The developer later acknowledged reports that persisted after 1.0.1. The September 24 announcement still lists save and progression loss among the targets for 1.0.2.
A backup feature does not prove that a particular lost character can be restored. The patch tracker separates released changes from plans.
What to include in a report
Include the platform and storefront, game version, affected character, last working session, first failed load and any device switch or crash between them. For co-op, add both platforms, who hosted, the Mission and whether either player can still continue.
Describe the difference precisely: for example, the menu shows an old level but loading produces a new character. Keep account identifiers and save files within the official support channel rather than a public comment.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does losing Boons mean my save is corrupted?
Not necessarily. Temporary Run power resets normally. Missing character levels or permanent unlocks need a separate investigation.
Can I recover my character with the rolling backup?
We have not verified a universal restore procedure. Preserve existing files and ask official support about your platform and symptoms before replacing anything.
